After a long hiatus, I am back into railroading. On a trial basis, I recently weathered four sections of Walthers Code 83 NS flextrack using Polly Scale in an airbrush. I then cleaned the railheads with Walther’s version of Brite Boy to remove the paint. Two things appear the next day: 1) the railheads appear yellowish, almost like brass, and 2) they have tarnished already. This is within 24 hours. I tried some Flitz Metal Polish which restored the luster. However, the yellowish brass cast is still apparent. Am I doing this incorrectly? Why does the nickel silver no longer look like nickel silver?
I am probably off base here, but the yellowish tinge is probably from the paint - you may have not gotten it off the railheads when you were wiping them off. Maybe a spot was still wet or something?
Hi.
No, the paint was removed thoroughly, but thank you for the reply.
I know he said it was Walther’s track, but maybe, didn’t Model Power sell something they called nickel silver that showed up yellowish like brass?
