i was just looking through the latest MR magazine, and there s an ad for the ‘railcam’ a flatcar with a big wreless vdeo camera on it.it costs $269! a few months ago i bought a tiny $80 wreless camera and fitted it inside an autocoach (thats a british coah that has big windows on the back)that cost about 15 dollars.
so how can they justify charging so much! the ‘railcam’ isnt even disguised as normal rolling stock.its just a big ugly camera on a flatbed. has any one actually bought a railcam? if so, why is it so expensive?
I dont know if you have “Spy stores” in your area but you can probably get a functional camera for less that is about as big as a coat button.
AFter lookign at the web site - I tend to agree. The camera is the X10 XCam2 WideEye, which is available from the X10 web site for $99. Plus a battery holder for 4x AA batteries, and a basic flat car. The stock camera uses a wall wart power supply that plugs intot he camera - my guess is it’s 6 volts. so a holder for 4 AA batteries provides the same voltage to run the camera.
