This unit here has eluded the paint shops for awhile now, still patched out DM&E i dont think i’ll ever paint it in the G&W orange. Gives the layout some history.
On my layout the Lehigh & New England did go out of existance. Here are a couple of Atlas U23B locomotives in a L&NE fantasy scheme.
A hot box meant this propane car was dropped off at an elevator to await repair. Good thing it is out of season for moving grain.
Must have been the USRE funding like the Lehigh Valley to dump the ALCOs in favor of these.
Welcome back, @alfadawg01
I’m railfanning my layout today. It’s circa 1972, and I caught this Amtrak train running southbound through Aberdeen, North Carolina. Amtrak is barely one year old, so it’s the rainbow era!

Dig the early Amtrak rainbow era. Here’s some fans shooting some early runs of Amfleet I cars:

Even with the FB2s, that didn’t miss it by more than a decade. Strange how time compresses as you get older…
Welcome back on board, alfadawg01
My new layout under construction is definitely designed for ‘railfan’ opportunities. The ‘nolix’ climb from the middle level 60" elevation to the upper level 80" elevation has just 2 turnouts (Tortoise controlled) for a passing track in its entire 100+ ft length.
The title says it does not.
So that doesn’t count then?
You know it does not.
Oh, I thought it did since it counts a model railroading (I Did help make the game), thanks for that heads up though I’ll make sure I wont do That again!
Harvest over, grain shipped and the fall weather is upon us. The manager of the elevator parks on the ramp as there will be no more deliveries this season, just maintenance to make sure things are ready for next year.
A lonely grain car sits at the siding. Is it full and ready to go? Did they order one too many which means this one is empty and will likely spend the long, cold prairie winter in that same spot until next seasons harvest. Who knows? We are stopped at the small prairie station, looking out the window from the upper level of a dome car.
