My wife and I are going to Prague, Czech Republic for a pre-cruise tour before embarking on a cruise down the Danube River from Passau, Germany to Budapest, Hungary next week.
Are there any good locations within 10 - 15 miles city for railroad photgraphy?
Are there any restrictions on photographing trains in either the Czech Republic or Hungary?
I’ve only been to Prague, but the city itself is very photogenic. I dont think there are any restictions on photography in either country. I found the Czechs a very friendly people. Announcements on the Prague Metro are made in English as well as Czech, and most bars and restaurants have menus in English. There’s a 3 day rover ticket you can get that covers all public transport in the city - ie trains, trams and buses. They’ve got one or two old trams you might see running if you’re lucky. I also did the touristy things when I was there and saw the surreal spectacle of the Czech Presidential Guards band playing the theme from ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. (Prague Castle is a tourist attraction and is also their equivalent of the White House).
I’ve not been to Hungary but from what I can gather they have an excellent national rail museum in their capital Budapest.
