In February, I will be going to Morgan Hill Ca to the Specialized Bicycle Co offices for a three-day seminar. Looking at the map of the area where we’ll be, it appears that there are tracks close by the hotel and the office. Does anyone know anything about that line - traffic load, frequency, etc? I don’t know how much free time I’ll have and I’ll be on foot or on a bike. Any help would be appreciated.
The Montery Highway runs right next to the Coast line north into San Jose and south into Gilroy. Real easy to railfan. Traffic is about 8-10 through freights a day plus locals. Amtrak Coast Starlight runs a train through in each direction (about 10-11am south and 9pm north if they are on time). And now Caltrains runs 3 trains each way down to Gilroy(Gilroy to SF in the morning,SF to Gilroy in the eve). The scanner freqs 160.740 road and 160.890,160.950 PBX. There are detectors at mp66.2 and mp83.8 on either side of town mp68-70.
Hope that helps trainnutz
Thans for the info, Chad. I hope to have the time while I’m there.
Chad, once again thanks for the info. They kept us rather busy in the school but I could hear the whistles as the trains went by about a block away. I did catch a glimpse of a couple through the trees but none went by while i could be outside on breaks.
I hate it when that happens. A few years back I went to school to re-up my firefighter certification (forrest fire) and the class was right next to the BNSF highline. For a week I got to sit and listen to the trains going by but I could not see them. It was torture.
