Railfanning the CP (former MILW) from Milwaukee to New Lisbon, WI

I’m restarting this thread in this forum to see if I get better response. Thanks to CSSHEGEWISCH for his posting in my original.

When Milwaukee Road 261 runs its excursions from June 21-25, I’ll be chasing. Does anyone out there have some tips for photographing this line? Scenic highlights? Places to avoid?

Thanks for your help and maybe I’ll see you out there.

My only suggestion would be to get out to Duplainville on the far NW side up in the
direction of Germantown. There you can possibly observe some WSOR and/or WC/CN
action on the former SOO north-south main which intersects the MILW main there.

Wisconsin Dells at the bridge? (It’s tourist season, though.)

Pewaukee along the lake?

Greetings,

Last weekend I took some time and drove the CP west from Milwaukee to Portage. I put together a webpage with shots at various locations along the way. Check it out maybe something will jump out at you.

Here is #261 on the bridge at the Wisconsin Dells in 2004.

I am thinking that there might also be some potential for shots at Sturdevant on Friday evening. That run is a “diner special” Milwaukee to Sturdevant to turn on the wye. Lvs Milw at 6pm returns at 10pm. Late afternoon, but why not.

We are going up to the Dells Saturday with tickets for the New Lisbon Turn. Only segment that I was willing to put up the bucks for a ride in the lounge car.

If somebody is really ambitious, I think there are long stretches of Route 12 close to the tracks between New Lisbon and Tomah, might be good for chasing shorts. And then there is Tunnel City.

Thanks to Keith for information on other spots.

Its due into Milwaukee on Wednesday June 21st. I’ll be riding that one. The train is due to arrive at 6:00pm, however in 2004 when it made the same trip it got into Milwaukee at 8:30pm.
