Railfest in a Downpour

These images were taken in March of 2005 when the Fillmore & Western’s Spring Railfest got a little rained on. Still, it was a great day for everyone who braved the weather and came out.

First we see one of the railroad’s ALCO S6’s with a heavyweight car.

Next, a former Chicago & North Western F7(A) and a string of streamlined cars, all painted to look as if they are a Long Island Railroad commuter train for a movie shoot.

Just then I heard the shrillest of steam whistles and this little Porter triggered the crossing gates. The attendees who paid extra were taking turns running the 0-4-0.

Finally, here’s another shot of the faux Long Island Railroad F7.

There was a lot more equipment to see and shoot (an RS32, and a bunch of GP30s, GP35s, and more S6s) but it was mostly in tight quarters, with lots of stuff in front of it. Still, even though we came out of it rather damp, it was a terrific memory.

Thanks for looking and corrections are welcome,
