Railpicture rejects.

Does anyone know the Yahoo group called Railpictures.net rejects? Or something like that. Im looking for the link or the Group. Thanks,Allan.

Nope.

What I do know is the people are a bunch of whiners… I’ve seen copy/pasted discussions and geez – you think it was the end of the world the way they complained about RP rejecting a pic from the website RP owns and pays for…

Actually my photos greatly improved in quality after I got some feedback from the Railpictures Members on my rejects… Instead of complaining I made my pics better… Of-course I still get rejects, but now I can say for good reason “what were they thinking”…

Yeah, but then again you also have bunch of people who will defend this ad-riddled website and the Gestapo screeners behind it to the bitter end. The only complaint I have against the “whiners” is that some of them still put up with the RP mess instead of going someplace else. And to those people…cry me a river! (seriously, we need the rain!)

I’m with David on this one. I think complaining about their rejections on other forums is about as pointless a pastime as one could invent.

I have submitted pictures to Railpictures.net. I’ve had lots of rejects and I’ve had a few accepted. The last go round I sent in 11. 10 were rejected and one was accepted. As with anything as subjective as judging the merits of a photograph I’ve disagreed with some of their decisions but I do think they are very consistent with respect to the application of their accept/reject criteria. I too have learned a lot about looking at and photographing trains both from their rejects and also from their accepts. If nothing else the effort gives me an even better appreciation of the work involved in taking good train pictures.

I guess at the end of the day the thing I wonder about most is the occupations of the very small handful of photographers on that site who have accepts in the hundreds. I don’t see how one could possibly have any kind of a life/occupation and have the accepted output they have…my hat’s off to them…

I’ve posted about 10-15 pictures over the years. To date, I’ve only had one accepted. I’m proud of it. That site is making me a much better rail photographer!

Some people don’t take criticism well.

In fairness to the site, I will defend them, even though they do seem to get a little out of control. The bottom line is, it’s a business for them, and it does cost money to run. If they want to control quality, that’s their right. As said a million times before, if people don’t like it, having your own site where you can do whatever you want, is only 1/4 of a cable TV bill away.

I don’t know how much of a business it really is… I think those ads are just paying for the hosting/server. They’re still annoying, though! Actually, I cringe anytime anybody posts a link to a RP.net picture because of all the ads. RRPA.net isn’t much better, the way that the browser window auto-resizes [:(!]

I agree with the quality control. I DO have my own site, which includes some of the pictures that I have had rejected by RP.net. I also accept a limited number of contributions, and I do have quality control of my own! I’m probably a lot more lenient than RP.net, but my contributor base is a heck of a lot smaller than Railpictures’!!!

I still say someone should start a dedicated online forum where people could go to complain about other forums.[:D]

Talk about whiners…maxamize the window, it can be done with just two simple clicks of the top bar of the window…try it’s it’s magic.

Yah, I griped once about a few rejects I got.

I actually agree with two of them, the third I still like, but oh well. I’ve still probably got better anyway. These were the photos. The red trolley was rejected, I think it looked better when I took it, but I’m not all that fond of it now.

I think the other two are good, but then again, nothing earth shattering.

Some alternatives to Railpictures would be webshots, flikr and photobucket. You can post any train picture you want to on their websites. They don’t have critics that can reject photos.

I color correct and retouch digital images for advertising and catalogs. The
many photographers I work with will shoot one to two thousand images in
a days’ shoot and then only a handful are chosen in the final cut. If they
took it personal they would all be doing this…[banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead]
