Until early last week I visited this website daily. Lately, when I attempt to log on I get a message that the site is not secure and that I can go on it but to do so puts my computer at risk. Is their another similar website I can try?
That’s odd, I’ve gone to that 'site and never had a problem myself.
Occasionally I’ve gone to a newspaper 'site and gotten a security warning, why I don’t know, they’re a repsectable 'site, but when I get it I get off the site and don’t go back for about 24 hours or so. Usually the warning doesn’t come up again. I suspect there must be something going on “RailPictures.”
I DO get a security warning every time I go to the Bachmann Trains site. Again, can’t tell you why, I know they’re respectable.
According to a posting on their forums, the site was switching to another server about a week ago, and I experienced some disruption as a result, but no security problems. I’d try it again, and come back and tell us what happens.
If you have a good security suite such as Avast Internet Security installed on your computer, and all of its updates are current, you should have no problem despite the warning.
It probably means that some Security Certificate issuer company had not updated their certificates to the new server that was put in place. The problem “should” go away eventually when all the databases get updated properly.
There’s a lot of neat stuff on Flickr. Have to hunt around a bit, though.
Never been a huge fan of RP. It’s fine for a certain type of railroad photo (and there are a lot of great photos on there), but there’s also a lot of great shots in the world that they don’t think fit their definition of "the best railroad photos on the web".
Happy to say that, as of 08:30 this morning, all seems well with railpictures.net. Thanks to all who responded to this post.

I’m glad your problem has been resolved. I have had ongoing problems with railpictures.net for years. It seems like there has been an ongoing arms struggle between the site owners and troublemakers for years. The site owners get everything working properly and then someone comes along and knocks over the applecart. Which always struck me as odd, because you would think the troublemakers would be bothering more highly trafficked websites. One thing that has always gotten my security software frothing at the mouth has been popup ads for a screensaver company that likes to attach themselves the the railpictures.net site.
But to get back to the RR Picture Archives site for a moment. There was a discussion about the two sites on a Canadian RR forum a number of years ago and I always liked the conclusion they reached. Even though the two websites give different criteria for getting posted on their sites, photography is such a subjective thing that on any given day a picture on either of the sites might be the best RR photo you will see all day.

I sometimes get similar warnings on normally respectable sites. Often it isn’t the main site itself causing the concern, but some of the linked advertisements. Something many news sites seem to have plenty of.
