Railroad BlinkerSigns By TAPCO

TAPCO of Elm Grove, WI created this new high-visibility advanced warning sign with yellow LED’s around the outside:

Plus all thier railroad signs:

All right! Something else for the bozos of the world to ignore!

Larry, that’s not very sporting!

Be interesting to see, though, whether something like this has an effect on grade-crossing problems at otherwise unlighted/ungated crossings. It should be cheap enough to install, maintain (and keep charged), and make secure. Would be almost trivially simple to arrange different, brighter, or even differently-colored flashing when a train is approaching (e.g., associate the blinking speed of red LEDs with the speed of the approaching train, as in one of my signage proposals to FRA)

Might not shut the Times up, but then again, very little that makes sense appears to be able to do that anyway…

I know thier Blinker Stop Signs are effective. We have one it our county at an intersectoin prone to accidents. Haven’t had one there since it was installed…maybe it could work overall for the railroads. I’m still trying to find one in the state but have not come up with anything yet.

I would imagine that a device that keys the car as it goes around the gate would reduce the amount of times idiots go around them.
