The 2011 calendars have been showing up at the LHS the past month. I usually end up getting three because that’s how many I have room for on the wall next to my desk. I usually get a NYC, Pennsy, and one other eastern railroad. I had an Erie-Lackawanna for 2010 but this year I found a nice Norfolk and Western with lots of steam pics. I’m wondering if I am an oddball or are there lots of you who collect calendars. How many do you get?
I have a bunch of “gimmie” calanders, unfortunately no one gives away rr calanders (or at least not that I have ever gotten). If the photos are what you like - go for it.
You could do as some large calanders I have seen do,they cover several future months. One set for this month, one for next month, the third for the month after that. In doing so you will know when all the upcoming train shows, meetings, appointments and such are at a glance. No surprises when you turn the calander and find you missed a show on the first, because you forgot to turn the calander.
I do know of folks that collect pretty pictures off calanders, though not necessarily rr ones.
If it suits you, enjoy.
Have fun,
I have a “give away” calendar for 2011 already, but will purchase a train one for next year also. DO every year.
The real thing is how many of you KEEP those old calendars for the pics of the trains AFTER they have “died”?
OH! OH! ME! ME!
Hi!
When I was a working stiff, I had three train calendars in my office - side by side. As I was in the fianancial arena, I was constantly dealing with dates and deadlines - past, present, and future. Sooooo, I had the first calendar at last month, the middle calendar at the current month, and the third calendar at the next month.
This also gave me a chance to “show off” my RR interests, and it was surprising to see some of the “higher ups” stop by to see the latest pictures.
By the way, one was always an MR calendar, one a Classic Trains, and one an NMRA calendar.
Calendars are also a good way to give a little support to an organization. There are certainly more places to send money to support RR museums and projects than we have money, but we can help them out a little by purchasing their calendars. I have calendars from the Maryland & Pennsylvania Historical Society going back many years, and they do keep coming up with different and interesting images.
Many of the calendar images are “suitable for framing”, especially for folks decorating a train room for the first time.

I like the MR “Art of Model Railroading” calendars. I’ve already got mine for 2011.
Great photos, but WPF still has the best ones!
I just get one, the current RCT&HS one. 2010 was bridges, 2011 is works of a well-known local photographer. It comes free at my level of membership.

I get two - one for the office and one for the garage. One is B&O and one is classic cars. The kitchen and bedroom are chosen by the wife, and are usually Italy and pugs. Both of which I also like…
And yeah, I save pics I like and often find room for them somewhere…
