When I watch COPS on TV on Saturday nights even the plain clothes police fla***heir badges to confirm who they are to the “bad guys”, why didn’t this RR cop? On the other hand, most of us fans have heard about the RR cops being edgy about trespassers lately and so why did the fans here give him such vague answers? Also why is there an obvious gap in the video and what was there before it was eliminated OR what happened during the time the camera was turned off (one or the other is the case here)? Nobody on this video seems to have done everything right.
If you listen real carefully on that video, the father even begins to admit that he was tresspassing. He even stifled the dreaded “T” word in front of the policeman.
That fan did not seem to be the brightest person.
Oops…Sorry!
I double posted this thread because last night I guess so many people were trying to watch it, the link developed bandwidth issues.
Regret any confusion…but please feel free to continue the debate.
Personally, I think the policeman did what he had to do, and the “father fanner” developed a confrontational attitude.
Your opinion(s)?
We all continued on the other thread.
Someone needs to shove it up that cop’s ***! I guarantee if that had been me I would have had a grand old time telling him a thing or two.
Yes you would have, and “if” the cop were really a RR cop you would have likely landed overnight in jail…oh, what fun, hey?
If you are a plain clothes law enforcer; it helps if the suspect knows you are a lawful enforcer-(hint-hint).
For an police officer-he is quite a moron when it comes to that part of procedure
Unless I was given proof that he was indeed who he said he was-I wouldn’t have given my I.D to him at all.
Again this is parralel tread to a already good discussion but things are getting redundant.
The Tape is doctored and does not show entire conversation, we don’t know if the cop identified himself but vehicle has police lighhts in grill and radio VHF antenna.
The fater admits on type to be tresspassing despite swalolowing his words.
So far the fater is moron , on other board the son admits another rr cop in uniform was there and walked them to their car.
from what little bit i was able to see…it is a real cop… when the SUV is driving up…you can see the red and blue strobelights in the grill on the very front of it…as well as the big whip antena on the top… the most of the clip i was able to view is the part up untill when the person said taking pics…then it cuts off… at least for me…

Mr. csxengineer, I have no way of knowing if the “cop” was really a cop but please remember you can buy red and blue flashing lights and big whip antennas, not to mention formerly real cop cars with all the right stuff on them…just about in any city you can mention. Looks can be deceiving my friend, so it is good practice to be careful who you obey.
Speculation, but, perhaps the missing bit on the tape is where the cop flashes his badge at those jerks.
As far as I’m aware all of the police equipment (lights, antennae, gun racks, SCMODS, etc.) are removed from vehicles prior to their disposal at auction.
Also possibly missing is where he simply tells them he’s a RR police officer. I saw several “jumps” nicely mixed into the video.
All those parts cost money - if they are still working, they will likely be re-used. Yes, you can get them, but most police agencies have a pretty good idea of who is running in their area and will challenge any yahoo wanabes who decide to equip their personal vehicles with the tools of the trade.
Many municipal police agencies have gotten away from “unmarked” cars for routine patrol work, but they still exist. Just because he doesn’t have a roof rack on his truck doesn’t mean it’s not an official police vehicle, RR or otherwise.
yes you can buy that stuff…but also keep in mind…it IS a crime to be empersonating a law inforcement officer too… and didnt you mention that backup did show up" and tresspassing is tresspassing… if i saw you next to the tracks taking pics where i was switching…would you give me a hard time if i asked you to leave becouse you where tresspassing on my railroads proporty…even tho i am not a law inforcement officers?..makes no differnce who tells you to leave…if your where you shouldnt be…then first off…why are you there…and second…if ANYONE askes you to leave… leave…end of story…regardless if its a cop…a railroad worker…for just someone driving by and knows you shouldnt be there…

I can’t believe this jerk is a R R cop. If he was, I’d get his butt fired!
1 - No official display of Identification.
2 - Far worse: DO NOT APPROACH AS HE DID WITH BULL NOSE OF AUTO DIRECTLY AT SUBJECTS. That’s the tipoff. The jerk is showing off, indimidating like the fool with peanut-size gonads he is. You approach slowly and stand OFF in case there might be real trouble.
3 - You do not make such a rotten display of authority with a person’s child alongside. The idiot pretending to be a RR cop should know that. He represents the railroad. He is trained to be forceful but courteous is such situations. If the job is to get people off the property, do so, but don’t act like some big shot to soothe your stupid ego.
I worked with too many RR police as an insurance engineer doing RPL (Railroad Protective Liability) inspections and the like not to know the difference. It’s a thankless job and the men and women have to be tough. But they would NEVER act like this jackass did.
As far as those taking the pictures, out they go if a brakeman or switchman or ANYBODY connected with the RR tells them to get off the property. But that should still be done with a reasonable amount of firm courtesy. Video cameras have long lenses and, as heard on the sound track, the man says he came up from the street.

Looks like a RR cop vehicle, youve got the normal Ford Explorer, the red/blue lights, and like alot of them I have ran into while on the job as a locomotive engineer, the gun ho attitude of I am a cop and you will obey my every command. I work for the railroad, and yes the RR police have a VERY tough and hard job protecting the employees, and property, some of them (not all) need to come off their high horse. They need to realize that 99.9 % of people that are watching trains are doing just that, although that doesnt give people the right to trespass. Most people dont even realize they are trespassing, so if you are approached cooperate, and if you are tresspassing, just move a little farther off to public property and do all the train watching you want.
There’s a lot wrong on this clip, on both sides![V] The RR cop, who appears not to have shown his ID, and the foamers that were where they had NO[:(] business being, period. Now, we do have that gap of unknown length. Seems about three decades ago, when the law applied to everyone, gaps in recordings could damage their credibility. Now, who knows. In the NYSSR, the local cops are doing the nasty stuff, and the RR cops are just as ignorant. BUT it all depends on who you run into, a good honest police officer, or a[censored][censored][B)][][banghead][censored][banghead][banghead][censored][D)][|(]!!
