Whats going on with the rest of the line south to Murphy, NC? Have not understood why this trackage has never fit into the plan.

The line from Andrews to Murphy, NC is intact but has been vacant of trains for decades. It is owned by the state and is mostly flat. Cherokee County and the state of North Carolina are missing out big time on not agressively supporting a tourist train operation there, especially in the fall when the leaves change color.
Road one of the last steam photo excursions at GSMRR and would love to see steam return. In an article last year, the owner “promised” that steam would roll again - hope it comes to pass - I’ll be one of first in line for the ride!
So, Harper will not allow the county to see his books for a $700,000 grant. That should tell something to all interested parties.
Most are probably unaware of the condition of GSMRR’s two steam locomotives. They have been sitting outdoors in the elements in pieces and uncovered for years. Only a small number of parts have been stored indoors. Go onto the GSMRR Facebook page and keep going back until you find the photos I took of them in 2011 (if they haven’t been removed).
