If your railroad utilizes “Crew Packs” instead of providing bulk supplies on the locomotives for crewmembers, do you like them or hate them? If it were possible, would you rather go back to the bulk supplies or, if that isn’t an option, what would you like to see included in each pack? Please list the railroad.
crew packs are good in my book… everything you might need as far as personal supplies such as paper towels and TP all in a convenit pack… all you need to do is grab a few and put them in your grip and your set… dont have to sit there and take inventory on the engin for what supplies you might need item by item… also…they make great car kits to keep in your glove box or trunk incase you have to do a road side repair such as replaceing a flat tire… have hand cleaner…alcohal wipes… and towels all in a nice little package…

Crew packs and drinking water are provided by the carriers. As CSX stated, a spare pack is a good item to have in your own car, they do come in handy. One item I supply on my own ,which is alwys in the grip, is a can of disinfecting spray. Every trip, I spray down my seat, desk and radio set in the eng cab. You might be surprised by how some other workers leave their work station for the next guy. Not a very heathly enviroment.
…SFbrakmn: Just recently, the wife and I include that disinfecting spray with us as we head east to the same hotel we stay in to take care of door knobs…TV control…telephone, etc…and it’s a nice hotel but never the less…it just might stop the spread of even picking up a cold or whatever…It can be purchased in travel sized spray cans and is very handy.
I can imagine the work environment you are relating to, it would be a super idea.
Crew packs are ok but they don’t include enough paper towels. The towels are the item that is used most. I throw away lots of the other stuff. CSX once increased the number of towels in its packs but they have gone back to packs with too few towels.
ModelCar - don’t forget to take the bed cover off - I read someplace that they are a prime source of problems…
…Yes, we know about that, and try to be careful about that too.
