Railroad games and other software...for the Mac?

I’m looking for RR software for my Mac, but all I’ve got right now is Railroad Tycoon 3…and I haven’t even tried it on my new Intel iMac yet! Are there any other Mac users out there that can help me out? What games, simulators, or layout building software do you recommend? Hopefully there’s some cheap/freeware stuff I could use. (Personally, I’d love it if I could find a way to run the classic Railroad Tycoon II under OS X, but I think that’s a pipe dream.)

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I would say that is about right.

It sounds like you should have bought a PC. [;)]

Aside from the inflated price, the lack of software developed for MAC’s is the prime reason why I switched from Apple to clone PC’s in 1993 and I haven’t looked back!

Since your MAC can be a PC why not just run RR Tycoon under that platform?

So you are comparing what was in 1993 to 2010??? As a matter of fact there are currently 100s of thousands of software titles out there for the Mac. You can find software for almost every conceivable computer use you want. How many do you need…??? As far as price, you generally get what you pay for!

To answer the OP, I have a couple things I use on my Macs. SteamTrain by NostWare.com is a little game for steam loco operation that can be downloaded for free. The pay version is larger and more complicated. For layout planning I have been using Empire Express by Haddon Software. There is considerable Open Source Software that will run on any system. Do a search and you can probably come up with a few hundred titles that would be related.

Snow Leopard from Mac would “run” a Windows program, but you have to install a Windows O.S. on your Mac.

"It runs Windows, too.

Have a Windows application you need to use once in a while? No problem. Every new Mac lets you install Windows XP and Vista and run them at native speeds, using a built-in utility called Boot Camp.

Setup is simple and safe for your Mac files. After you’ve completed the installation, you can boot up your Mac using either Mac OS X or Windows. (That’s why it’s called Boot Camp.) Or if you want to run Windows and Mac applications at the same time — without rebooting — you can install Windows using VMware or Parallels software.*"

Rail Modeller layout planning software for Mac.

To use Windows games and/or software on Mac you dont have to install Windows on your Mac. Try Crossover.

Railroad Tycoon 2 runs flawlessly on my Mac with Crossover.
