Railroad History Quiz Game (Come on in and play)

I vote for Al and the easy question. No essay questions though.[:o)]

Actually, it’s fill-in-the-blank:

Oh, the Eastern roads are mighty swell,

The ______________ _________ and the ___. ___. ___.;

But I do my work and earn my pay

On the ____________, _________ and _____ Fe!

Hint: The songwriter omitted an ampersand (&) in the above to keep the meter. And the first five blanks? They mention two predecessor railroads to CSX.

Further hints upon request. – a.s.

The Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central

Atchison, Topeka and Sante Fe

You have the bottom-line blanks just fine. Good goin’!

The first part of your answer scans well, but isn’t correct. “Pennsylvania Railroad” was never a part of CSX except to the extent it might have bought some exx-PRR Conrail track.

"and the “New York Central” doesn’t scan. Hint: the periods indicate abbreviations. Also consider the rhyme scheme: A/A, B/B.

What letter abbreviation(s) would rhyme with “swell”?

WAG’s welcome !! - al

the balto ohio and the acl

Where “balto” goes, put a three-syllable word that indicates the B&O’s owner.

Also remember there is no ampersand; you have that part quite right!

The first part was a shot in the dark. I know nothing of Eastern RR’s even with the CSX hint. The second part, well, thanks Al for the gimmy.

Doghouse, I’ll award it to you. You got everything except “Chesapeake” instead of “Baltimore.”

You have the right to pose the next question. If you choose not to, perhaps nanaimo has one? Or would like to “nominate” someone? - a. s.

im not pickin nits but…uh…wasnt i a lil closer?..i mean did have both RR’s correct…[:(]

Dude, go for it! [:)]

lol…all in fun…ill wait until i get a full answer right [^][D)]

Where IS everyone this evening?

OK, I’ll lay one down; you’ll either know it or not:

In 1952 the Pennsylvania RR put new, Budd-built, streamlined cars (“lightweight” according to its era) on part of its Manhattan/Penn Station to D.C./Union Station service. Which train(s) got the shiny new equipment? - a. s.

The nits have been picked. And closer, yes, to you, J. Fire away!

the Congressional?

. . . and, “The ___________.”

well ya got me there…[banghead][D)]…i dunno

Diplomat?

The Senator?

Yes, it was the Morning and Afternoon Congressionals (DC-Penn Station NYC), and The Senator (DC - Boston).

Good goin’! The next question is yours.

Well, lets see. In 1945 the PRR received there first 2 E7 locomotives, and put them into service on the Red Arrow, from Harrisburg to Detroit. However that is not the train that they were bought for. A last minute contract dispute about pooling power between the PRR and the other railroads running the train caused the PRR to back out of the pooling agreement. So here is the question, what train were the locomotives originally purchased for, and besides the PRR, what other railroads did it run over?
