Thomas, it’s getting a bit late tonight but I’ll try to post some pics tomorrow.

The Allentown, PA yard seems to have had a number of RRs that used it. CNJ, RDG, L&HR, eventually LV and D&H, then Conrail, now on NS main route to New York.
And in a recent thread with historic pictures of the CNJ, the poster mentioned that LV and CNJ shared the Bound Brook yard, which at the time had tracks either side of the through main.
The Burlington and the Wabash may have shared a yard in Des Moines.
Thomas, here are a few pics of the yard, the staging yard under the layout, and the helix to get trains to/from staging.
Hope this is of any value to you and keep us posted with anything you do.

I’ll keep this in mind for the likely distant future! I’m hoping to eventually model the Rock Island in Oklahoma, and the main yard of that layout will likely be Enid. That yard saw interchange between CRI&P, ATSF, and Frisco
It looks like you could do it separately, like the three tracks to the left of the post could be ATSF and the other tracks BN.
One other thought I had was the line from staging to the yard could be a third railroad. It would be like a yard to yard transfer. Let’s say the third is Union Pacific. UP engines pull the cars from their yard (staging) up to the yard, where BN or ATSF would then sort out the interchanged cars into trains and send them out to the rest of the layout.
Another option would be to make the yard say BN, and ATSF trains come from staging and run though the yard to get to the rest of the layout. So in effect staging would be the ATSF yard, and the yard on the layout would be BN. ATSF could also drop off cars to BN’s yard as a transfer, which BN would then make up into trains.
Great looking staging yard, Chris.

Or actually operate it as the analogue of a belt or terminal railway, where the transfer switching is handled by ‘terminal crews’ and the various railroads just spot and assemble their own trains.
Lots of possibilities and sll good suggestions.
Nice looking yard and railroad Chris!
My layout is based on reality, but it’s a fictional line. I wouldn’t worry too much about being overly prototypical. The goal should be to make things believable. You can always pretend a few things in history were slightly different than they were.
I just have a small yard built to handle idle cars, mainly. Most of my action is on the main line, not the small yard or the branch line.
Why not, if it works for you!
Wjstix, you have certainly given a lot of thought to this. Much appreciated. I will have to give consideration to your comments.

Thanks Rich, I always nice to get positive feedback.

Woke, that’s more or less how I’m operating it presently.

Thanks Neal, being “on an island’ and a lone wolf, I only get comments about the layout here on the forum. I appreciate your positive comments.

Probably the yard (outside of the Chicago area) that had the most railroads interchanging within may have been the New Haven’s Maybrook Yard in NY. It had the NH, Erie, NYO&W, L&NE, L&HR, LV and DL&W.
Everyone, sorry about the xtra pic of the Audi SQ5 I included in replying above to Thomas. I took it an hour before taking the pics of the layout. When I was clicking on the photos of the layout to post to Thomas to reply to his request I guess I wasn’t paying attention and included that pic.
