[#offtopic] I am a 23 year old African imigrant who loves Anime, Railroading, PC’s, video games, and PC software. I played Final Fantasy 7, and of course there is a type of railroad that ran from the bottom slums up to the top city on a plate which is quite interesting. The height of the city is quite possibly around 1,000 feet up in the air via a helix!!! I wonder if that technology will ever be possible or does exist. I wonder how many model railroaders own a helix. I am currently planning on building one.
In the real world, there are small helixes for gaining altitude, that make not quite one complete spiral: the Tehachapi Loop in southern California, and a couple of spiral tunnels in western Canada.
In modeling, helixes are much more common. I’d suggest posing your question over on the Model Railroader Forums, where you should get some helpful responses.
Good luck!
