Does anyone have any ideas as to the size of rail pass to exchange with other model railroaders? I would like to desing one for my Detroit, Woodbridge and Birmingham (DWB) but other than using standard business cards as an example I have no idea as to the correct size, if there is one. thanks folks!!
There is no standard size for prototype or model railroad passes. I have over 1000 in my collection, in many differing sizes. Remember it’s YOUR railroad, and you are (supposed to be) allowing free passage on it. It’s up to you to decide the best size.
For many years many model railroad passes were printed on #63 round corner cards, which are a bit bigger than standard business cards. They allowed more info on the passes. As a teenage model railroader a way long time ago I purchased a hand operated printing press on which I made my own passes and stationery, used the #63 cards.
I have in my collection passes printed on business cards, these #63 cards, file cards, plain paper, airmail tissue envelopes, etc.
These days most people, me included, prefer the ease of doing our own using our computers and printers. Business cards are the easiest size to print as they come ten to an 8-1/2" by 11" sheets that are precut in this size. I’ve looked around for something a bit bigger on which I could do my passes, but only found sizes that were just too big for my interests.
So use whatever size you want!
Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the case but I though that aksing arond could not hurt!!
Don’t know if this will help. I used to buy from this company a lot when I was in printing.
Do you know where I can find examples of what other clubs and individuals have done on their
rail passes
