Railroad pictures from trip to Canada from UK

Hi All,

I have at last managed to post all my pictures from the railroad portion of my holiday to Calgary etc on my Fotopic site. The files are split into three sections, a trip to Alyth Diesel Depot, a trip to Jasper then basically everything else railwise.

For those that may be interested I hope you enjoy them. The pictures cover the date range between 16th December to 29th December 2005. I’ve still to caption some pictures.

Right in me hometown!
I see you got a few more SD40s than I usually do, looks like you had some good luck! Speaking of that luck, how’s you manage to get into the Alyth shops? However you managed it, thanks for those shots!
A little OT, but I saw 3084 heading west this morning on the Alyth-Keith turn, it’s probably going to be back at Alyth in the evening.

Nice work, I especialy like the shop shots.[8D]

According to Guide to North American Steam Locomotives, George Drury, Kalmbach, Canadian National 4-8-2 6015 is from class U-1-a or -b built in the years 1923-24.

Thanks a lot for that, I will update the picture.

I arranged this trip over 6 months ago. In 2003 I arranged a trip around the Alstom Ogden Works. I have posted a few pictures in the 2003 file but I agreed not to post interior shots. I simply wrote asking for permission. It may have swung it as I repair and service GM loco’s in the UK. I provided my own safety equipment and hi-viz clothing. I was given a guided tour on both occasions. I am cleared to do safety critical work on locomotives in the UK so my experience hopefully helped in a decision to grant access. I always write first and never just turn up. It’s the same where I work in the UK, if someone writes in first we tend to let them in. Of course I have been turned down by some railroads but that’s life. I find though most are helpful.

One other thing, they were built by the Canadian Locomotive Company.

Great photos, Canada is a large country which consists of more than the Eastern slope of the Rockies, there are many other noteworthy railway spots throughout this vast land ,come again.

It certainly is a big country, I wouldn’t like to paint it. We aim to return in May 2007 where we will travel across the country East to West on the train. The first initial visits to Calgary were because my partners daughter emigrated there 5 years ago. I would definitely like to see more of Canada.

Awesome pics man. You should arrange a trip to where the CN Kingston Sub and the CPR Belleville Sub parallel. I got 38 trains in 12 hours … so pretty much double that for 24. Between the VIA, CN and CP … its an AWESOME show!

BTW … you have your CN SD75i’s labelled as SD75iW … you don’t need the W … just to let you know

I love Field, BC for watching trains. I’ve had many a great time there.

And, for those who may not be aware, one of the world’s greatest (and most famous) fossil grounds are located just a couple miles north of there.
