Back in the 1950’s, maybe the 1960’s, there were 3" tin symbols with different railroad names painted on them. Someone said they were premiums in cereal boxes. Anyone know their history. I have 30+ different ones.
If you can post a picture of a few I can probably find something. Also note if there are any stampings or markings on the back.

Actually I have these listed on E-Bay right now (with about 5 days to go). Listed under my jmaryans name or item #6510166249. All plates are shown there. Nothing on the back. Thanks
I’ll go take a look.

This subject came up just the other day over on the Toy Train Forum. I posted a brief history of the emblems. The post id is:

In 1967 I bought a stack of these at the Casey Jones museum in Jackson Tenn. They cost 10 cents each.
My Dad has the complete set. Hope to get them someday.
He riveted them all together into a big shield and had them hung on the wall when I was a kid. THey are still in the train room.

I remember these symbols too. Dad got about six of them and mounted them individually on wood shields shaped like the Route 66 signs and hung them in my brother’s and my bedroom.
I just discovered this post while roaming from the Trains forum. I just answered over on the Classic Toy Trains site. If anybody has a couple they are interested in parting with, let’s talk. Recommend e-mailing me since this is not my usual forum.
