When I went though training for the UP during my brakemans/switchmans class we watched a bunch of training movies.
One in particular was called " Getting off on the right foot " It was a training video about getting on and off moving equipment. It was made probably early 80’s. However It was quite a funny movie, and I would love to see it again. Anyone ever heard of it, or where I could get it?
I have seen that film at a couple of railroads I have worked for … and have been searching for a copy. So far, internet searches have come up empty. If you run into one, please let me know. Thanks.,
I have one put out by the Santa Fe safety department many years ago that was one of several railroad-related DVDs offered as a package deal. The set was a gift, so I don’t know where it was purchased.
I remember those days … I think they should still be doing that … judging by the number of fatal pedestrian incidents I read about every day on “railmishaps” …
As to the film I am looking for, I have found it to be one of the best and also done with a sense of humour … not often you see a safety presentation and laugh !! The fellow (who looks like Archie Bunker) gets himself into some crazy situations …
How very sad that the “railroaders” of today continue to be emasculated because of liability problems, etc. It’s also a sad comment on the type of worker that are the “new school railroader” and note the “railroader” is in quotes. I have boarded and bailed off moving equipment over the years and sometimes at too high a speed … I am still here to talk about it, and I sure do miss the “old” days.
