Railroad videos

How many railroad videos (VHS or DVD) have you purchased this year? State your reasons below.

I have a few movies on trains. Like, a Santa Fe movie, and a collection of steam locomotives.( Durango & Silverton).

I have collected about 20 videos over the years. They allow me to see and experience things and places that I never could any other way. I also buy videos about places I have been to see what sort of take other people have on it. Sometimes they video will bring out things about a familiar line that I had missed or hadn’t thought about.

RR Videos bring me to places where I’ll never see first hand.
When will Trains make available their fine RR productions on DVD…I’m holding off buying RR videos in the VHS format.

Having grown up with trains in the house, it’s rather odd that I don’t have any train videos. I suppose it’s because the rest of my family doesn’t appreciate them the way I do. I have looked at a few and have been tempted.

Just bought the great series originally broadcast on the Travel Channel some years ago. It is called “Railway Adventures Across Europe” with Bernie Kopell as host.

Love US late steam early diesel especially UP but live in Irealnd and Australia so the only way to see live action is on video. Just bought “UP Steam on the Double”. Will probably only buy on DVD in future - easier to capture good still shots from that media.

I own several dozen videos. They are pretty evenly split between historic and current railway preservation topics.

My interests tend toward very specific topics. I am an unabashed steam fan and am keenly interested examples of excellence in the railway preservation field.

I like videos about historical aspects and maintainence.

I have RR videos an excellent addition to the enjoyment of model and fan railroading. It is a relaxing way to end the day and provides a number of modeling ideas.

None purchased, but I have rented about 56 over the past year. Our local hobby shop purchases them then rents them for a week. And they better Videos than what you find in Hollywood or Blockbuster.

I enjoy the Railhead Photography series.

I all ready have so many videos on early to late steam and diesel, I feel that I can hardly find the kind of videos that I don’t have on the subject. I like to find more on how to do Model RR’s and clubs and private layouts. My favorites is western themes. (A.T.&S.F.)

I use videos as a resource for modeling. They are part of my research into the prototype. I can get ideas for scenery and operations. I get a “feel” for what I want to model in a way never available from the printed page.

I use train documnterys as a form of entertainment and learning in one.
My there year old likes watching train documntery better than Thomas the tank engine.

I am a regular buyer of Pentrex videos-both steam and diesel. Very nice stuff…

I got three RR videos as a gift this year, based an train trips in Egypt, Great Britian and the US.

Over the years I have acquired quite a collection of mainly Pentrex videos. My main interest is US steam.I enjoy watching ther. Recently have been getting the videos on great train rides around the world. Those I probably will only see on tape. I have visited a number of tourist railroads and have their videos also. Durango and Silverton, Cumbres & Toltec, The Cass RR, Great Smokey Mountain RR, Napa Valley RR, Steamtown, Strassburg RR, New Hope and Ivyland RR, and a number of train museums and restored roundhouses North Carolina and Savannah Ga). My wife’s family are also big railfans too.

I have purchased many RR videos in the past several years, both from Kalmbach and Pentrex. Have just recently ordered my first RR DVD and would hope that Pentrex expands more of it’s library onto DVD and that Kalmbach would also consider offering it’s videos in DVD format.

Total library of videos (including DVD’s) is 142. Have only acquired DVD’s over the last 1-1/2 years.
