Here is a link from our regional paper about the state of the railroad industry. As most papers the Washington Post slants it toward the local industry or in this case the Federal Government and a scorecard on the progress or lack of progress with legislation.
Interesting that the Washington Post has “discovered” that railroad business is worthy of news coverage. Don Phillips decided to accept an early retirement offer from the Post when his new editor insisted he should only write articles on terrorists threat to the airline and rail industry and as “fill” coverage of accidents.
The posted comments are worth a note in that they may represent the general public lack of understanding of the issue presented.
Well jeaton, as usual the newspapers (not unlike the television, cable and radio stations) are more interested in ratings than in properly serving the public…Sooooo, they would rather “report” on spectacular things like those previously mentioned rather than on more mundane, but actually more important, issues like the state of an extremely important national industry like the railroads. Go figure!
