I watched it it was cool [tup]
I’m glad I saw this thread. I caught the preview a week ago, but completely forgot. I’ll have to catch one of the reruns.
Of course it was cool. Would they have needed to shell potential avalanche sites if it had been hot?
Welcome to Alaska!

It is interesting that they are switching to Concrete ties. When I was up there most of them were still wood and they had just finished putting in the new track. This was a few years ago though. Also I find it interesting because the CN an CP in Canada are going back to wood ties because they are having a problem with the concrete ties failing due to cracking in extreme cold of winter. The freeze thaw process cracks the concrete ties real quick according to the CN and CP on line studies.
I also learned several cool things that I didn’t get to see while I was there. I wish I had been able to see Whittier but we ran out of time. I also didn’t get a chance to go to fairbanks but that is part of the next trip. (I want to ride the White Pass and Yukon)
It’s on again right now!
I found the part about the tunnel quite interesting. Rail or motor vehicles, and only one way at a time. Here is a link explaining it if you did not see the program.

I thought it was a great show! I liked the part where they were replacing the ties with concrete ones. Interesting to see how they clipped them in place. Rail barge was cool too.
Did y’all notice the locomotive on the in cab video was left hand drive? [%-)]
What’s up with that???

Controlled by direct mind link, too. No controls on the console!
(Boy wonder was talking to the conductor. Apparently he figured his audience would be just as technologically challenged as he is.)
If you think I’m totally unimpressed by the ‘reality adventure’ format of Tougher in Alaska, you got it in one. That guy ought to get back to his day job.

I wasn’t home that night, but I recorded it. So, I could kick back with a beer or 3 and fast forward through the long commercial breaks. Maybe that made me see the show in a more favorable light, but, well, it was just light entertainment. Sure, I could go with a bit more technical content, but I was happy with what was there.
We’ve got digital cable now. And, with all the hundreds of channels to choose from, this program was far and away the best thing I could have tuned into. Yeah, I know. That doesn’t say much, does it?
I didn’t notice that! [#oops][banghead]
Neverimind!
