Greetings all.
I was wondering if Canadian Pacific & Canadian National do much work in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I do believe that Canadian National does a lot of container activity there but does Canadian Pacific do any railroading there?
Outside of container activity, do either railway do any other work in the Maritimes?
CP has no operations east of Quebec any more. The last vestige was the old Dominion Atlantic from Windsor Junction to Yarmouth, which operates as a shortline and only extends as far west as New Minas.
CN has extensive terminal operations around Halifax serving various customers and services numerous industries along the line all the way to Moncton. In addition, general traffic comes from interchanges:- In WIndsor Junction NS with the Windsor & Hanstport (ex-CP, Windsor Junction to New Minas)
- In Truro NS with the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway (ex-CN Truro to to Sydney)
- In Moncton NB with the New Brunswick East Coast (ex-CN, Moncton to Quebec via Bathurst and Campbellton)
- Via the Sussex Subdivision with New Brunswick Southern (ex-CP, Saint John to Maine).
In short, there’s lots of non-intermodal railroading in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on CN and the four shortlines and regionals.
