The steel plant where I worked had a jet snow melter - they used it mostly to thaw frozen turnouts, although there were a couple of yards between mills which would often accumulate considerable drifted snow. With no place to push or blow it, the melter earned its keep. It was pretty good at moving ballast and trash, too, including the wooden wedges used to hold cuts of ingot buggies and scrap cars.
