Can someone please tell me what is the differnce between Railsounds 4.0 and 5.0? I am buying a engine that has 4.0 as opposed to 5.0…I was just curious what are the differnces. I dont mean installation differnces, I mean the towercom announcements etc… and the crewtalk…the steam chuffing sound…(yup its a steamer) I wish there was a place that someone had it recorded on the net somewhere…I goolged it but cant find a recording…or is it differnt for every engine that has the same version or railsounds?
Main difference is the way the crew talk/tower com interact and that the crew talk is now intelligible instead of highly squelshed gibberish. You also have additional control over certain volume effects, aka background effects can be lowered while whistle and horn are at full volume. Diesels come with 8 rpm levels vrs 4 on the older versions (aka RS 2.5-4). Steam engines should all have four chuffs per revolution. I believe one of the steamers with smaller diameter wheels was released with RS 4.0 but it had four chuffs per revolution.
Chuck’s explanation is perfect. One thing that I like about 5.0 is when the engine is moving and you hit the ALT 5 key, you hear somebody yell emergency stop. It is fun to hit this with visitors in the room. [:D] I enjoy both the 4.0 and 5.0.
