Happy Holidays, all! With all this -30 (Celsius) weather and snow, it’s great to stay inside and play with trains!!! Today’s question is for all to answer, but the Canadian folks might know this better: What year did all the crossbucks go from saying ‘RAILWAY CROSSING’ to the red-colored ‘X’ border that is standard at the crossings? I’ve asked so many railway museum folks, but no one seems to know. I even tried asking the CN web-site, but to no avail. I’d really like to know. Merry Christmas!!!
They were installed in the 1980s shortly after English-French bilingualism was made official, replacing signs that were similar to those used in the US except the word “RAILWAY” was used instead.
