Just wanted to tell you all about the nice railroad in the city I live in. 4-5 years ago it was the main railroad into my city. But politics and money changed that. No trains runs there anymore… Enjoy…

Wonderful pictures! Perhaps I missed it, but what is the name of your city? I have traveled in your country by railroad, although it has not been recent. Some of those scenes jog my memory.
I’m surprised that train tracks are being torn up and replaced with bikeways and pedestrian trails in Europe, too. Here in Massachusetts, the car has displaced the train, and it’s awkward now to commute to work unless you happen to live very close to one of the few commuter lines.
If the trains had to go, though, it’s nice to preserve the right-of-way, particularly the parts which are still unpaved. We have a couple of dirt trails, in addition to some paved ones, here in Bedford, MA. I like to ride my mountain bike through the woods, imagining what it was like a hundred years ago when the old tracks carried steam engines through the town.
Alongside one of our paved paths, there is now a short run of narrow-guage track, which (I suppose) matches the original line through town. A couple of years ago, a group of rail enthusiasts brought a narrow-guage engine to town and laid a hundred feet or so of rail (using the existing abandoned line for the other rail) and shuttled the engine back and forth for a weekend. I’m hoping the engine will be back to ride the slightly longer track sometime soon.
