Better spent on restoring the SAL route to DC. Are the “Dogs” (Greyhound/Trailways) kicking in any money?

Charlotte is the last city on the Piedmont route to not get an updated or new station. It is the largest city in the state yet it has the worst train station located 2 miles from center city and it is well over capacity. Charlotte desperately needs a new station, if NCDOT wants the Piedmont to be successful, they need to build the long delayed new intermodal station, Gateway station ASAP. It should be the highest priority now that Raleigh’s new station is funded.

I’ll agree with Mr. Hays. The leg of track between Raleigh and Selma I heard, was originally intended to be part of restoring through service to/from Norfolk, VA with a train that was to serve Tennessee, but never has come into fruition. As for the SAL line, all I’ve heard is that there have been plans for it, but the tracks would have to be restored between Henderson, NC and Ettrick, VA, where Amtrak’s Silver Star last rolled by in 1986. That route was shorter, and the state of North Carolina had plans to build an intermodal terminal at Henderson at that time, but CSX eventually abandoned the line for a lack of customers.
