So does anyone else hope they bring back Astro Train for the 3rd Transformers movie? Was watching the original animated version this weekend with our new temporary roommate (also a Transformers nut) from…crap can’t count this high…25 years ago and that question just popped in my head. I mean he still wouldn’t take place of my Bummble Bee but it would still be nice to see him. And anyone else getting annoyed at the random Transformers renaming? They made Devastator a flipping tank in the first one, then in the second one they make a bunch of Constructa-cons form a giant transformer which was actually Devastator in the original. I don’t think they talked to Hasbro enough.
Now back to a real post that’s totally on subject. I Plan to run a passenger consist made up of PS lightweight cars with a baggage, RPO, business, 3 coaches, and an end-of-train observation car.
How long would that consist be? Does anyone make an admirable 4-6-0? Would a 4-6-0 be appropriate for a 1927 time set? What kind of super detail parts could added for a passenger engine?
A lightweight passenger train in the 1920s? I believe you’re at least 10 years too early for that, my son. You’ll need heavyweight cars for a 1927 train.
A 4-6-0 could work, but more typical would be a 4-6-2 or a new-fangled 4-8-2.
I assume that by “PS lightweight cars” you mean corrugated stainless steel cars. As was previously posted they are more a 30’s thing and then only for premier trains. It is unlikely that a 4-6-0 would be pulling them. A 4-6-0 would be typical of a 1920’s train, but more of a local type train (RPO-baggage combine, one or two coaches or a baggage car and one or two coaches). Observation cars tended to only be on premier trains (I would bet that 90-95% of all passenger trains operated did not hove an observation car). Similarly, business cars were fairly rare, less rare the further back you go, more rare the more modern you are. They were only used by high ranking officials and thenm only when they traveled. So a Division might have one business car and it might travel just a few days a month.
