Rapdio Passenger Car Modifications

I purchased a Rapido Budd Baggage-Dormitory car and I am having derailment issues on a 22’ curve. When I test it by itself, I can see that the trucks don’t have enough swing movement. The instructions that came with it mention “filing away the centre sill underneath the car where it interferes with the truck”.
Has anyone done this and can you give me some guidance?

Sure. With the car upside down, turn the truck slowly by hand. Watch where it catches on the center sill. You new to sand or file the sill down that spot just enough to allow clearance.

I should add that 22” radius curves are pretty tight for a car of this length and design. I run Rapido passenger cars on 32” and 30” radius curves with no problems, but they were problematic on my old layout with 22” and 24” curves.

Thank you Rich. I am using Bachmann E-Z Track and have not seen that large of radius. Do you add a section of straight track between the curved sections to enlarge the radius?

No, that wouldn’t work since you would still have a 22” curve without some sort of easement. I use Atlas flex track to form the curves and Ribbonrail Metal Track Alignment Gauges to set the desired radius on the curves.
