Hello all.
I realize that Rapiodo couplers are on their way out, but I’m just curious as to why they have the little spike or projection on the bottom of them. The only purpose that I can see that it serves is to snag on things like turnouts…
Thanks in advance for any info on this.

I always thought it their feeble attempt at suggesting a brake line
As I remember, it is the uncoupling pin that would be tripped by a mechanical uncoupling ramp.
I remember an uncoupling ramp that had 2 fine wires that would snag the pins - bought on that never worked!![xx(]
I use Rapidos, when used in conjunction with Peco SL330 mechanical uncouplers they provide problem free uncoupling, just a matter of parking the couplers over the SL330 pushing a lever to one side and its done, they can also be used in conjunction with the PL10 points motor for hands free uncoupling.
This was the original type of uncoupling for Rapidos, there have been many variations of the theme but they all use the little plastic bits to enable lifting.
For the moment I am quite happy with the Rapidos, when I get my layout to a certain stage I will replace all my rolling stock with one brand probably MTs which will also work with the SL330, I got sick of knuckle couplers not working well, to many brands to contend with.
