I was just offered a Rapido Canadian Passenger set, the one with the two F9PA units and an unpowered F9B unit and the 10 passenger cars. The set is DCC and has sound. This is the maroon and grey set with the CPR logo in Script.
The set is new and the box was never opened.
I want to pay a fair price for this set to the family.
I have tried using EBay to find recent sales but can not locate any sales what so ever.
One sold for $2300.00 Cdn. in May of this year. That would be about $1800.00 USD at today’s rate. It had been opened but not used extensively. Only the locomotives had been run. Your still sealed set might be worth more, might not:
The last one I saw offered on eBay was a while ago. The asking price was $1600.00 USD IIRC. Apparently it didn’t sell or it would be in the ‘Sold’ listings.
If a good friend, pay what they paid, if you are helping them out offer a little less. He may have gotten a deal. 15% to 20% off is what I would expect at a retailer.
Thanks for the information I tried a search again on EBay and found a recent August 1st 2017 sale for the exact set and it sold for $2,195 USD ($2.757.80 CAD) and that set had been open. It was missing the extras that Rapido had included the liquor glass, stir sticks and napkins with the old CPR logo.
When I told them about that sale and the sale reported on this site they decided to keep the set and put it on E-Bay just before Christmas.
Those prices are a bit scarey. I guess I’ll have to make do with my Intermountain Fs and Walthers cars. Oh what hardships we modellers have to endure![:'(][swg][(-D][(-D][(-D]
Oh, just so you know, I’m perfectly happy with both the Intermountain and Walthers products. I think I’d be afraid to handle the Rapido stuff if I had paid that much for it. Intermountain has absolutely great customer service. (Rapido does too by the way. The Vice President of our club works for them in their service operation and they do go out of their way to resolve problems).
