Rapido........my first purchase, the Review!

Ok, I’ll admit that I was skeptical at first but I broke down & bought my first Rapido Passenger car today. The Canadian Pacific 10-5 sleeper “Brookedale”.

Opened it up at home, had it in an sun lit room & thought to myself that the colour wasn’t right. It looked too light.

Ok, put it aside & started playing an online game.

Finished playing, took it downstairs to where the Ontario, Drew & New England Railway sits & placed it on the tracks. Sent a P2K switcher to pick it up & bring it to the yard. As it was being pushed towards the yard, I noticed how quiet it was. Wow!

I then noticed the colour. In the lighting I have in the train room, the colour looked great!

Left it for a while sitting in the yard, went to do something that I knew would please the wife as she was away for a few days ( it did btw! ), came back downstairs after everyone went to bed, started reading the booklet that came with it.

Intrigued, I installed the batteries ( without destroying the car, I was so impressed with myself ) & waved the magic wand & was blown away.

I may have to buy more in the future!

Nice car Jason!

Gordon

Gordon,

It is an enjoyable feeling getting a quality scale model.

Can you post some photos?

I have a Rapido car as well, & honestly, I really like it, as it has lighting & really good detail. They immediately went on to my mental “Will Buy Again” list.

I have also had very positive luck with their Accessory & Detail parts.

I hope they continue to be a major supplier & model producer!

That’s great, Gordon. [Y][8D] It’s always a joy when what you receive something that is better than what you expected.

I finally had a chance to operate my BLI Paragon2 NYC Hudson at a friend’s house recently. (He has a nice, large basement empire with large radii curves.) My 4 x 8 is too small to operate it with a few Branchline heavyweight cars pulled behind.

When the Hudson made it’s maiden voyage around the layout that evening, it looked REALLY good and ran quite smoothly. I almost got giddy with delight. LOL!

Anyhow, glad you (and your wife) are pleased with the purchase.

Gord, a year from now your going to have a dozen of them, lol. My first set was the two ONR 8 car versions I bought years ago. They were a limited run of 100 made for CMT and I’ve since been buying the CN 1954 scheme, the CN wet noodle versions and of course the VIA ones. Look around for the Glen Fraser VIA car, its getting hard to find as well as the CN and Via odd ball cars. I love these cars, I don’t think there is a better piece of passenger car equipment available, even in brass. Could a couple CP cabooses be next??? LOL. I was at a show yesterday and the dude from Crossbucks from Pickering had a few on sale if your looking for more. Mark is a good guy and he does layaways if your interested.

Lol… I know what you mean! [:D]

Glad you liked the car!

I think TA is right, one is not enough. I have 11 of them. The lighting system is awesome. I like the magnetic wand system they employ, it also is used for opening and closing the doors on the baggage cars.

Here is the Bowen my model and the real one.

Here is a video of mine on the layout. Such as it is.

I have a set of the 1954 CN cars and am very pleased with them. If only they would do a tail end car.

No choice but to wait.

I have the Canadian set which according to the Rapido site is set to be released next month. Now that will be a big bill I am not looking forward to.
