Where can I obtain detail parts for windows? I want to personally add an extra rim or rubber/flush for the GE Jersey Arrow/LIRR M-1 car shell windows, both inside and outside. The reason why I want this is because I have finished deflashing the shell using an X-Acto knife. Not all the windows have a razor sharp finish due to deflashing. If I insert flushes for both inside and outside of the coach shells the will look professional. I have attatched a picture for a visual illustration description.
I have heard of folks using a fine point, black Sharpie to color the window gaskets/seals. I tried it myself once (and plan on using that method again), and it works fairly well. You just have to be really careful to take your time and have a steady hand.
If you do use a Sharpie, don’t paint over it with clear lacquer like Gloss Coat or Dull Coat. It will make the ink run. Ask me how I know. [#oops]
If you are working in HO or larger, you might try striping tape. The tape people use for making the track lines on control panels. The R/C airplane hobby people have a striping tape that is really narrow for simulating aircraft access panel lines. That may work.
A gentleman, whom I’m going to metalize some passenger cars for, did the black outline on several of his Walthers Budds. What a difference as it really makes them stand out and resemble the prototypes more closely.
I’m going to try out the “Sharpie” approach on one of my Walthers Budds and one Rivorissi. I’ll post the photos afterwards.
Rather than a Sharpie, go to a graphic arts or artist supply house. They have special VERY fine markers used for drafting etc - half or less the line thickness of a sharpie. My [2c]
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll stop by an art supply store in my area and take a look at those markers. If a tool or item makes the job easier…so much the better [:D][tup]
