Found this interesting posting on the RBBB Circus train’s schedule, it covers both Red and Blue trains. For those interested, you may want to take note and mark calanders. The link as follows:
the red unit is going to be in my neighborhood in a couple days. If I get the chance I plan on tracking it down. Does anybody know where it will be parked when it’s here (San Diego)?
So last year the blue unit was out here. Are they the same or are they different? Do they alternate what one goes where each year? I never gave it much thought but I thought the red train worked the west coast. I’ve never seen the blue one out here.
I could be wrong which train works which half of the country. All i know is the RBBB train has run up the Saugas line passing the west switch in Sylmar around 7:00am or so.
Hey Chad, in the past the circus train parks on a siding wedged down between the airport and MCRD. I think if you get off of the 5 at Washington and head west, it should be right down there. All I know is if you are driving up or down the 5 and look west past the Mission Brewery Plaza its usually there when the circus is in town. I’m going to try and get down there as well if i can’t find it before they park it, so maybe I’ll see you there.
The Red and the Blue Units are different shows and both units can travel the whole country depending on the schedule but the stops are generally as close together as possible. Each show is on the road for two years before changing so a market that sees the show each year will see the Red Unit one year then the Blue Unit the opposite year. The change of shows for the units occurs on opposite years (Red changes one year, Blue changes on the opposite year) during the winter vacation break in Florida.[8D]
They skipped Tulsa in 2005, in fact I do not believe they played Oklahoma City either so they completely shut out Oklahoma this year.[:(!]
Thanks Matt, I’m going to try to get up there tue evening after the traffic dies down. I’ll be in the gold company S-10. BTW- where was that live steamer picture that was in your signature taken? and what happened to it?
Richardy, Thanks for the run down. I guess it’s just chance that every time I’ve seen the circus train it’s been the red one.
No problem Chad. The picture from my signature, as well as the one in my profile, was taken up in Arroyo Grande, just south of San Luis Obispo. Its a privately owned railroad called the Bittercreek Western. Here is the website: www.bittercreekwesternrr.org And the picture is still in my signature, i just dont use it when i dont feel like taking up a lot of room in a topic, but since you asked…
Hey Chad, did you end up going down to see the train? I didn’t make it down to MCRD, but on my way to the Padre game tonight I saw bits and pieces of the train parked along harbor drive. It looked like the flats were down near 32nd St Naval Base, and most of the passenger consist appeared to be sitting in the SD&IV part of the downtown yard. Pretty neat stuff, hopefully I’ll make it down to MCRD before they leave, or the day they actually do, and get some pics.
Hey Matt,
No, I didn’t get a chance last night (tue) and I will be out of town this evening. I will be able to check it out thursday though. Thanks for the report. BTW- where is the actual circus going to be at?
