About 6 weeks ago during a discussion on the movement of crude oil from ND, someone linked to a blog by RBN Energy which described the relationship between oil producers, railroads, and refineries. It was an excellent blog and I have checked out their site, where there is an energy blog nearly daily. Pretty interesting stuff and written so that an average MP173 can understand.
Today there is a blog entitled “A Tank Car Train for Hire - Part 2 - Understanding Rail Strategies”. This is a very well written blog, obviously the author, Callie Mitchell, understands energy (primarily oil) but also railroads. My inability to figure out how to link to this site keeps me from providing that service, but a bright shiny quarter to the person who does.
There is more to follow as Mitchell will explore costs associated with rail transportation. It is Mitchell’s opinion that rail will NOT go away when the pipelines are built, but will offer vital transportation solutions to changing needs in distribution of crude and other products.
This is good reading and great news for the industry, particularly CP who needs a little boost right now.
