RDC

Those RDCs are old Athearn parts. But a friend made a new driving unit with Faulhaber motor. And I painted them in the Westport Terminal RR paint scheme.

Here’s a video.

Hi Wolfgang

I watched the video and they run very smooth

but i’m wondering if the motor is mounted higher than it needs to be

if it were mounted lower there would be less angle on the drive shaft

Wouldn’t that make it even smoother ?

The angle is in the gearing behind the bracket. And you can’t get much lower, there’s the flywheel.

This was the idea from the mechanician. [:)]

Very Nice!

I achieved similar results with Ernst gear conversions and can motors from Alliance Products. I have six of these Athearn RDC’s converted in this way.

Great conversion. All my Athearn RDC’s are now dummies because of busted elastics, before I switched over to the Proto2K RDC’s I was pulling them behind a GP7 like the B&M did in the late 70’s as commuter trains. Of course now I’m in N scale so they are all in storage

Great work!
