Nice photos… I haven’t seen that paint scheme before. Is it just me, or does the new paint on the engine make the passenger cars look dirty? Perhaps a fresh, matching coat of silver on the paasenger cars would be a nice touch.

Keith, do you miss that old coal tower that used to be there? I’m not sure if it added “character” to photos at that location, or was just a dirty old eyesore. At first I thought I liked it gone, but now I’m not too sure.
Chris30: I agree; those coaches look terrible compared to the locomotive.
Those filthy coaches really set off the cab car.
I saw that same loco today but very quickly as it was goin passed the back of my work where. I get a nice shot of amtrak trains all kinds from the the hiawatha to the empire builder and I even get to see a nice varity of frieght trains.
Yes, I do miss the old tower from the Coke Plant. It definitely did add some “flavor” to shots from Maple Street. I tried to find some shots from Maple street with the tower, but I guess they must still be slides.
I guess I didn’t realize just how dirty those coaches were compared to the locomotive. I guess the paint on the locomotive is a bit “plain” too. I guess it is the only “Cabbage” currently in the Phase V paint scheme.

Last Monday evening I stopped by Sturtevant for a quick burger while on my way up North and saw two Hiawatha Service trains in a few minutes and wow were those cars filthy…but the engines were clean by comparison, can’t Amtrak put the cars through the same wash machine?
I thought the sun might help a little. Here are a couple of shots of #90221 at Waterford Ave from today (3-26). I think all the sun did was to make the coaches look even worse. I think the nose could use some more blue.

I spotted that one yesterday too, haven’t had the chance to get pics of it yet. Looks neat, for Amtrak anyways, but Amtrak really needs to get away from using grey/silver/“Platinum Mist”, everything looks HORRIBLE when it gets dirty, and it’s just not all that eye-catching, IMO. The only Amtrak paint scheme I ever liked was the pointless arrow on a black carbody, that really looked sharp! Maybe they could develop something with green and black (or a dark charcoal grey, so it never looks dirty)…
It looks nice, but the blue was done all wrong. Those “locos” need to get the dark hood back, like they used to have, with the dark blue extending down around the cab windows, and possibly around the front too. Otherwise they just look unbalanced with such a light blue on the roof.
I like this Unit and the Paint but I would like to have the Wave Similar to the P42’s on this one.
Logo on the nose is way too small…looks like it hit a Smurf!
Whoa pardner- over on another thread the Roaming Gnome got hit in Australia and some poor guy thought he hit a kid.
I approve! I wanted Amtrak to keep the F40PH forever but thats not the way I expected. At least they’ll be around a few more.[^]
TRAIN 42 TO DISPATCHER!! EMERGENCY EMERGENCY!!! I JUST HIT A SMURF. OR WAS IT A GNOME? PERHAPS IT WAS A TELETUBBIE. OR MAYBE IT WAS A SPACE ALIEN. I’M NOT SURE. I WAS READING THE PAPER AND WAS NOT WATCHING THE TRACK IN FRONT OF ME SO I DID NOT GET A GOOD LOOK AT IT.
Don’t get me going about this guy again. He should stick to flipping burgers or working an assembly line. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those jobs (I have done them both before), it’s just that someone that goes to pieces like he did should not be on a railroad.
