RE: Changes coming in July

well now we know what the changes are going to be . thanks Bergie for posting the info !

if that’s the only perk that subscribers get then for me it’s a non-issue , i can wait for the product reviews .

if the subscribers were to get significant content that isn’t available to non-subscribers i guess i could start subscribing . i’d hate to break my record though , almost every issue since 1986 and had to go out and get every single one [:)]

I’m glad the stars are going away. That made it much easier for me to decide to nuke my old account and adopt my current screen name.

Bergie i think i will cancel my Model Railroader because i will not subscribe to Trains just to see news wire.

Ah what’s the point[xx(]

Foul!

If the reregistering is difficult i will not come back.

My[2c]

I think if You buy the issue of your choice you should be alble to acccess the same sites as the subscribers. I use to subsribe to MR but it cost me about 75 dollars canadian to geet it here for a year. It’s alot of money at one time. I do Buy the magazine every month like clock work. I also contribute to this forum as well. I should have the same access to all the parts of this new forum as well as everyone else.

People have been hoping for an upgrade to a outdated forum and when MR goes to the trouble of hiring programmers to give us what we want, all we do is whine. They don’t have to provide a free forum for us.

How ungrateful can we be.

Thanks Bergie. I for one am looking forward to it.

sledge:

Forum access is not in question. You will be able to do all you could do before, although we will all have to reactivate our registration on the new site.

The only item that’s subscriber only will be a preview section where subscribers get to see product reviews early and to vote on products.

No biggie …

Hear, hear!

I too appreciate all the work Bergie and MR are doing to debut their new site. Being a professional web developer myself, I know how much work this is.

I can’t believe people are already trying to critique something that they haven’t even seen yet … maybe they’d like some cheese and crackers with that whine? [swg]

SPACEMOUSE FOR PRESIDENT!

I’m with you Chip!

OH, the worst thing is the stars are going away! What a horrible tragedy! Can we continue?

Actually, the changes sound pretty good to me. My guess is that the excellent posts will continue and that this site will maintain its helpful, excellent character.

I, for one, am looking forward to the changes.

BTW,

SPACEMOUSE FOR JANITOR

But…before I vote for Spacemouse for president of MR, he must explain with diagrams and pie charts, how you wire a double turnout reverse loop! Then u can be President, possibly. d
PS: It has to work real good too.

SPACEMOUSE FOR PRESIDENT!

Pie Charts?

Did somebody say pie?

Count me into the group looking forward to the changes. They are porting over the old threads, which was a concern of several people. Sounds like a step forward to me.

You get the yard signs, I’ll do the TV commercials.

I look forward to the changes as well, and maybe with the stars gone, the amount of rubbish posted will be cut down, because there won’t be anyone trying to get a star or 5.

just my 2c

I myself can not wait for the changes. The only part I do not like at all (and it looks like a lot of others also) that you have to be a subscriber to MR or Trains to get the newsletter. Currently, I only subscribe to GR (I am a garden railroader). I just can not afford to pay that much just to view weekly newsletters. I think that part is not fair. Non- Subscribers should be able to view the smae things as subscribers do.

Don’t get me wrong though, I REALLY appreciate all the work Kalmbach and the entire Moderator team has done.

Just my 2 cents.

Matt, you will be able to get the newsletters but the links from them will only work if you subscribe to that magazine. This is copied from Bergie’s post:
NON-MAGAZINE SUBSCRIBERS / REGISTERED USERS

If you’re not a magazine subscriber you’ll still have plenty to access at the new Trains.com. As in the past, the majority of our content doesn’t require registration.

Registered-users will receive:

Post questions in our reader forum.

Access to our Web cam.

Access to the Index of Magazines (a.k.a. Model Train Index).

Receive any of our four e-mail newsletters. (emphasis added by me)

For example, I now receive the Trains newsletter and often click through to the news wire. In the future, I will not be able to do that as I don’t have a subscription to Trains.

Hope this clarifies things.

Tom

I think change is very good.
