RE: Covered Bridges and the RRs/Rwys that used them

Any locations and info you have on these would be appreciated. Also some pics if possible. Please also give Lat & Long coordinates and road that built them.

There is a little information on this thread:

Covered railroad bridges currently in use

Yes, the link is our earlier discussion on this topic. I just followed some of Dave’s links and also satallite pics along highways, etc. The Claremont and Concord bridges are all very clearly seen for instance. L&L is a little out of my abilities but certainly old timetables and guides with railroad maps should be of help despite some of the “straight lining” and other games railroads used to play. Look for roads, highways, intersections, and other map notes to decipher railroad locations…a point on the railroad could be a road crossing or mountain or stream name and not really on a road map, etc.

Here are the Lat/Long for the Claremont & Concord RR covered bridges still existing. There are also photo links for all of them on Google Earth.

Depending on weather and other circumstances, I hope to be able to make a real life visual check on these three bridges on New Year’s Day. Hope to get pics, too!

Her are the two reported RR covered bridges in Vermont.

DId it…visited the three Claremont and Concord covered bridges on way back from Bath, ME today. Contoocook is right there in the middle of town but the surprise is the station and ex B&M wood coach! The other two are right there in the middle of seeming no where but along a well travled and packdown two lane dirt road. All in excellent shape and open for walking along the C&C trail. There are fire hydrants at each for safety. Got pics and hope to have them up Monday afternoon. Contoocook was fair as the sun was shining somewhat and angle easy to get. The other two, had tight angles and terrible light as the sun had dissappeared and the canyon walls were close. Will see what I get tomorrow.

Good news, bad news. The bad news first. The several wooden cars including a parlor or bussiness car are gone from the yard in Wendell. The good news is that there does not seem to be debri or anything resembling destruction. On the site. That is good news if indeed they have been moved to a place of rest and restortation. But, where?

Ok…stumped again…got 23 pics, Kodak filed and saved. But cannot get out of the file to post here! Last time I got pics up but that route does not seem to be here…whatttamIdoingwrong?
