Happy New year to everyone. My question is this.I am re doing my 4 x 8 layout. Code 83 which I had pink (painted) foam board on top of my bench work. I am using the scenics foam track bed. Do I need to put down another piece of foam? Or lay it out on the benchwork.

Thay depends on how you want to do your scenery and roadbed. You could do cookie cutter with a piece of plywood, Spine roadbed, whatever, add cork, foam, homosote, Woodland Scenics roadbed material, or even camper shell topper tape from the auto parts store down for roadbed. Then do your scenery terrain with card board strips, chicken wire, screen wire or whatever, then cover that with plaster soaked paper towels or casting material, whatever floats your boat. Or you could do the foam top again. If you haven’t already removed or thrown away the old foam you may be able to reuse at east parts of it.
Or maybe I don’t understand the question?
I am using a foam road bed now and am planning on a town similar to the one in the Feb issue of Model Railroading. I was concerned about track nails holding through the foam road bed and the foam board. I do glue the road bed down.

A foam compatible adhesive is what you need. Silicone, or Liquid Nails for foam board (not the regular stuff, it melts the foam!)
The one layer is enough, unless you want a gorge somewhere. It is deep enough to scoop out a canal or a river. Make the plywood underneath your river bed.
If you want hills, just cut out another layer or two, shape them, glue them, and finishe the shaping. Add a plaster of paris rock wall someplace? The sky is the limit.
I personally glue me track down with Silicone Caulking. Trust me, now that I’m dismanteling my layout to move I’m glad I can easily just pull up the rails, turnout’s and all, and I’m on my way. No damage to the track and no pesky nails. If you’ve ever lost some of these buggers in a carpet and then 2 months later stepped on one while barefoot, you know what I’m talking about!
