RE: EXACTRAIL's NEW STRUCTURE - 72' DECK Plate Girder Bridge

I was just browsing my new MRN and saw the two-page spread on the new Deck Plate Girder Bridge from Exactrail.

From the photos, the details look very good and the choice of decking makes for a good variety. My only concern is the lack of Bridge Shoes for the model - I hope that Exactrail will be showing a updated model photo with correct Bridge Expansion shoes, as these would not be easy to model.

This Bridge section is going to be a real compliment to the BLMA Warren Thru Truss already available, if they get the expansion Plates and shoes correct.

Micro Engineering, offers the Shoe Casting but most are too small for a Plate Grider of this size.

Anyone heard anything on these and any arrival dates? My guess is spring.

I’ll be inquiring with them at the Oklahoma City Show this weekend.

Hi HF1, I just wanted to let you know that I did go ahead and purchase two BLMA truss bridges and went with Keith’s “Segmental” abutments as per your recommendation. You were right, these abutments are really nicely done! I’ve also struck up a friendship with Keith and ordered them from your friends in Nebraska.

I just, two days ago ordered a brass plate girder bridge (from another manufacturer). Of course, the MR Accurail ad showed up in my current issue right after. I just hadn’t been able to find a RTR bridge in plastic that I liked…'til now. Although I prefer to build things, (though I’m pretty new it it) I’m “this close” to getting my main line finished and up and running and want to get it done sooner than later. My bridges are… jewels, but spendy.

This is a similar situation to searching out those Bachmann City Scape buildings at train shows and online and just as I finally found the ones I’ve needed at a decent price they reintroduce them after a decade!

Never fails…I could barely look at Accurail’s ad at first without wincing or at least rolling of eyes!

I’m looking forward to seeing the Accurails in the “flesh”. Are they literally in stores yet or vapor ware?

I’m glad that you mentioned the lack of bridge shoes. I hadn’t noticed that. I’ll consider these for additional bridges if I need some.

Cheers

Greenway Products offers beautiful cast brass bridge shoes of a substantially larger size and type than the Micro Engineering castings. The price is very reasonable for the quality.

By the way I notice that Greenway also offers the classic Paul Mallery bridge book for sale.

I just saw the product in the new MODEL RAILROAD NEWS and after the shock wore off at the incredible detailing, I realized that my Visa is going go get exhausted when these little goodies hit my LHS. I’ve got FIVE deck girder bridges that are just sort of ‘there’ on my layout, and oh boy, are they gonna get REPLACED! [:P]

And Dave, thanks for the link to the Greenway bridge shoes. Whew!

Howdy , Capt’n… hope you had a great Thankgiving.

Keith does a really beautiful job on those abutments and piers and I knew you’d like the product.

I’ll be seeing Spring Creek at the show this weekend and hope to have the double track ones there to pick up. These Exactrail Deck Girder units are going to look really good with the Warren Truss bridges and the timing in these couldn’t be better for me.

Take care,

HF1

Dave…

Wow… thanks for the information. THose do look like what i’m talking about. OF course, I’m still trying to get info from ExactRail, if the bridgers will come eauipped with the Shoes or not…my gut feeling is that they will have a brass or pewter casting supplied with the Bridge unit, but i’m only speculating.
