Re: Is Your Layout Naked?

Here are some links to mine. Didn’t want to clutter the forum with pictures. As you will see, we have a lot of fun with Legos and other stuff, too. My grandson has a great imagination and scale isn’t too important. Lionelville, in the center, needs a lot of construction as well as more traffic control devices and scenery.

Thanks a lot to Lionelsoni, I can run two trains at once now and only have to worry about the speed of the Lionel Scout. Also plan to replace that motor with one that has magne-traction. Didn’t know those were available until found it in Greenberg’s.

You guys have been a real find for me and I appreciate this forum. It’s also nice to know I’m not the only 60 pluser out there who still loves these electric trains.

Thanks for the help,

Charlie

Charlie…A great toy train layout, but I have a question; How far is it to the nearest train store for you? Looking at a map, Lander is in the middle of antelope country.

How do you like Photobucket? Do you find it easy to use with clear instructions?

Kicking and screaming, I’m going to eventually open an account on one of these photo services. Just need to decide which one.

I’ve been using photobucket for about 2 years now and like it alot .

Nice layout!! What type of switchs are those? I don’t rrecognise them.

Steve

Thanks for sharing the layout pics Charlie! Looks like a lot of fun. I really like the cattle corral, too. I recall that we also had a MoPac loco on our layout back in the Fifties (wish I knew whatever became of those trains).

Charlie: Nice layout! Is that in the center of your living room??? [:O]

You’re a lucky man!

Kurt

Thanks for the comments.

It’s 350 miles to Caboose Hobbies in Denver, CO (They’re working on my 2035 right now), but only about 20 miles to excellent antelope, deer, elk, and moose hunting - not a bad trade off.

The electric switches are 5121 & 5122’s - from the '70s, I think. Don’t know what the manual ones are; they’re as old as I am.

Photobucket has worked great for me. Don’t change the default HTTP if you want to post to this forum, though.

Right now, the layout takes up the entire dining room. It’s nice to have an understanding wife. I’ll move to the garage with spring thaw. That should give me room to expand, or at least dream about it.

Wow! At least Caboose Hobbies is worth the drive. I have been there twice and you could spend hours just looking at everything. They have a great selection of railroad books.

How’s the fishing out there in Wyoming?

I’m looking forward to Caboose Hobbies. As I said, I sent a loco & tender in for repair; the technician sounds like he knows what he is doing. I hope to find something to spend some time and money on there, too

Fishing here is great, although I don’t do a lot of it. Both streams and small lakes. We have all kinds of trout in the higher lakes and the streams. Some bass and walleye lower elevations.

My fishing is mostly fly and ultr-light spinning in the streams, but trolling for walleye & ling are popular too. As is ice fishing in the winter.

My suggestion is to stay away from flickr.com, at least don’t try following the instructions in the “How to Post Photos” thread. It uses flicker.com as its example, so I opened an account with them. flickr.com works, but the “How to” post instructions are wrong. Example - it says to remove the http:// from the URL field. You need the http://! And no mention of the image code needed before and after the URL.

I spent the better part of a day trying to figure it out. [banghead] Then I got smart and asked the guys on the Coffee Pot thread. Had answers within minutes. [bow]

Wyoming…

Thanks for the pictures. Nice layout. Did you start this thread? The first post doesn’t say “Re:”, so I wonder if I am missing something. I have seen more “naked” train boards than yours, which I feel has enough “scenery” to be interesting. My setup has just about the same amount. Mostly it all has to be removable, as I take the 3 sections apart, cover them up and stack them along a wall during the summer months, which are coming up soon. Today it almost reached 60 degrees, and it got me outside cleaning up the John Deere, etc.

Interesting that you plan to move it to the garage. My garage is too dusty for that, maybe yours is better built to keep the wind out.

Wow! 350 miles to the nearest LHS. There was one about 7 miles from here that got me back in the hobby in 2001. When they closed down, the nearest one was 20 miles away. I use mostly mail order websites, now.

Could you tell me the size of the board you have it on? It looks like O-27 track, and my first layout had an elevated section like yours, but I could not get the slope gradual enough. Do you know what grade yours is? Like 4% or so? If I use more than that the newer engines tend to throw off the rubber tires. The old postwar GG1 w/o magnetraction had no chance of making the grade.

Thanks for sharing.
