re-motering locomotives

There have been ads in MR for a company that re-moters locomotives but I haven’t seen any lately. Does anyone know where there are places that do this?

I haven’t seen ads for remotoring services, but there are several companies that make replacement motors. NorthWest Short Line and Proto Power West are both well-known for their repowering kits for diesels (especially Athearns). I’ve used NWSL’s kit and was very satisfied, though it was a bit of work to install.

There’s a repower kit for diesels and steamers called the “Helix Humper” that’s supposed to be an easier install than NWSL or PPW - supposed to drop into an Athearn.

Hope this helps -

I’d be interested in anyone’s experiences withthe Helix Humper with respect to ease of installation and conversion to DCC. I have a number of older Athearn locos that I super detailed in the 1980’s. Before I convert them to DCC I need to replace the existing motors as they are not really compatable with today’s DCC standards.

There is a thread on this topic on the Atlas forum.
