Re-numbering Kato Sd70 Mac's Ho scale

Hi Everyone

I am looking at buy a few more SD70Mac’s before they disappear like most Kato’s.

The ones I am looking at changing numbers are the BNSF SD70Mac Heritage II scheme and Conrail SD70Mac Quality scheme.

How do you change the numbers on these models without, re-painting them? Can it be done using rubbing alcohol?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If I recall correctly there was a “workshop” article about this several years back in MR. As I remember the author (Jeff Wilson?) used Pinesol to strip off the decals. I have tried this method on some Athearn locomotives and it worked, although it removed some paint as well. If you’re careful it should work fine, just let some of the pinesol saturate the decal for a bit before prodding it off with a cotton swab.
