Especially if there will be rising sea levels over the next 100 years. Why spend money on a lost cause?
If I’m not mistaken, some of the lower portions of New Orleans will be allowed to be reclaimed by nature.
Filling in these areas probably wouldn’t work, because the weight of the fill would just cause it to further settle.
I guess that there’s always hope that the portions of the city that are rebuilt will be rebuilt “smarter”.
Yes they for dang sure should.
Carl is correct, the more fill you bring in the faster it will sink.
how about just knocking down the buldings and letting it flood to sea leval it might open up some new shipping lines.
We follow this logic and we might as well let California go as well because of the earthquakes and wildfires and don’t bother with Oklahoma City, 'cause it only a matter of time before another killer twister like the one in 1999 is gonna cut through the city again. And Fargo, my goodness…lost cause since it floods there every spring.
Maybe it’s just me, but I see a big difference between recovering from natural disasters and having to spend millions (billions?) just to keep your head above water.
And its not just the ppl that live there its all of us that are paying
i am not saying to forget about New Orleans but rebilled on higher ground
I say rename New Orleans “Naggin’s Titanic”
All it has to do is rain a lot and the whole town is going to leech out into the ocean again just like it did with Katrina. Why you would rebuild a town that is surrounded by water and below sea level is beyond me. You might as well just put outriggers on all the houses.
No doubt the next time it floods I will be accused of not caring enough again because of the color of my skin. I say rebuild the town on higher ground and start from scratch. At least you’ll make something that can withstand the weather of the area.
