Re threading a Dremel Lithium Ion moto tool

This might be a touch off topic but I am in a jam. While attaching my new flex shaft to my Dremel, I accidentally turned it on before the flex shaft core was engaged. This flattened the threads on the end of the armature (where the collet threads on). I am told by Dremel in Racine Wisconsin that the thread is .28 dia. by 40 threads per inch. There is no standard die of this size that I can find.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I could send it to USA for repair but I might as well write it off due to shipping and brokerage charges.

Hello if you can fined a nut with the same thread that is harder then the dermal it should act like a die they wont be perfect but it should straiten them up. Or you can check a loco machine shop they might have something? good luck Frank

By flattened, do you mean that the tips of some threads are deformed such that you can no longer screw on the flex shaft? If you have a small triangular jewelers file, you might try gently filing between the threads to remove the deformed material. You have to work the file along the thread, following the thread groove. I’ve done this with some small screws around the house, and have watched millwrights do the same thing with 2 inch by 8 thread bolts when I used to work. Of course, they used a bigger file.

Maxman, with your prompting, I scouted up my sharpest edged needle file and set to work. It took about 15 minutes of careful filing but…IT WORKED!

Many thanks,

Yep, they use some really non-standard threads on those. I think the threads even differ between the corded and cordless models. Glad you got it fixed.
